On the 7th of August teams from three of our Soweto partner schools met at the DSJ for a football and netball tournament. Participants were sixth graders from the Tshilidzi Primary School, Tumang Primary School and Forest Hill Primary School. .
All the boys and girls participated with much enthusiasm. In the end, the boys’ soccer team and the girls’ netball team from from Tumang Primary School won both events. The DSJ boys and the DSJ girls were placed third.
As in previous years, the event was financially supported by the German Embassy in Pretoria. Sports equipment (balls, whistles, cones, etc.) was purchased for each of the schools in Soweto and handed to the accompanying teaching staff.
The three partner schools reiterated the importance of physical education to enhance social competences, but that there is a lack of sports equipment everywhere.
Special thanks to our HoD Melanie Böbs, as well as Alex Bell, Busi Ngcwama and Morgan van Rooyen who umpired the games and contributed to a relaxed atmosphere. Our Prefects Jonathan, Martin, Sven, Aqeel, Isabel, Asante and Sebastian were also of great help. Their support was invaluable. Thank you very much!
