On Saturday the 20th October, the DSJ Handball AG attended the SuperCup Handball Tournament at the Daveyton Sports Complex, Daveyton. The SuperCup is Tournament organized by Ms. Nicola Scholl from Play Handball za in connection with Wast Ed and sponsored by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung. The idea behind it is to teach more Learners from Primary Schools to ‘play fair’ handball on the courts and to learn to look after their environment by understanding clean air, water, soil and recycling plastic.
The DSJ joined the tournament with a very young and unexperienced U 12 mixed (girls and boys) team as well as two U14 mixed teams. The U 14 A team were the mostly older members of the Handball AG while the U14 B team will be next year’s stalwarts.
The U12 team played in a group of four. They battled bravely, but were partially overpowered by the sheer physical power and size of their opposition. In the end they lost all four games, including the one for third place but gathered enormous experiences on and off the field.
The two U14 teams competed in two different groups of five teams each. The DSJ B team won three out of their four first-round games but made good in beating the fourth team in the semifinals to reach the finals. Here they met the DSJ A team which had up to then won all their first-round games as well as their semifinal. In an exciting battle The DSJ B team lost 3:1 to the DSJ A.
