Bewegungs-Bonanza 2022

Following two successful editions of the virtual Bewegungs-Challenge in 2020 and 2021, the relaxed restrictions have allowed us to host an in-person event for the first time in over two years.

Guests will be able to participate in a Fun Run/Walk, the largest Pilates session ever hosted at the DSJ, as well as enjoy interludes from our talented musicians and performers throughout the morning.

As in 2020 and 2021, we are running a food drive for our neighbours, Guild Cottage. In 2022, we will also be supporting ‘Project Teddy’ which is an initiative started by the Anaesthesia Department at the University of the Witwatersrand.

How does it all work?

1. Going for Guild Food Drive: 23-27 May 2022

Donations may be left at Reception or at the pedestrian gate located next to the Regenbogen-Kids.

2. Project Teddy Collection: 23-27 May 2022

In addition to Going for Guild, we will be supporting Project Teddy.

‘In 2022, Project Teddy was started by the Anaesthesia Department at the University of the Witwatersrand, through the kind help of sponsors and donations. Initially the project was only aimed at providing a teddy to paediatric burn patients before they go into the theatre. Seeing the tiny yet significant difference it made in the patients’ theatre experiences, we decided to aim towards providing a teddy to all the children undergoing surgery at all four hospitals in the Wits circuit (CBHAB, CMJAH, HJH, RMMCH). This is close to 5000 teddies per year being handed out, or 420 teddies per month. At the moment we are still working towards that goal, but are hopeful and believe that we will get there. The purpose of this initiative is to help decrease paediatric patients’ anxiety before going for surgery by giving them a teddy bear before going into theatre. Research has shown that providing toys to children before surgery decreases their anxiety. We believe that toys soothe fear and anxiety, help children cope with the unknown and motivate them to get better. The morning before surgery, the anaesthetist allocated to the paediatric slate signs teddies out from the secretary’s offices, and hand the teddies over to their patients before going into theatre.’

Donations may be left at Reception or at the pedestrian gate located next to the Regenbogen-Kids.
