For 30 years we have been integrating every year a class of academically outstanding students from Soweto and the surrounding area into our school life. They receive an excellent education and leave our school 8 years later with a matric or a Kombiabitur in their pocket, well prepared for their future life. We are proud and grateful that this has been possible for 30 years.

On November 1st we welcomed students, teachers, parents, board members, former NSec learners and guests to celebrate this birthday. As special guests we were pleased that Dr Schäfer, the German Ambassador in South Africa and Mr Montjane, the Executive Director of ISASA had found the time to attend the celebration. Dr Schäfer emphasized the special importance of the NSec for the integration of pupils from formerly disadvantaged areas and he also announced the further promotion of the NSec by the German government!

The celebration marked also the start of a pilot project for cultural exchange with our partner schools. Learners from 3 partner schools – Dumezweni Primary School, Tumang Primary School and St. John Berchman’s Primary School – introduced us to elements of their culture. Next year, it is planned that pupils from our school will present elements of their culture in Soweto.

We enjoyed to have some insights into the culture of our partner schools, a video with experiences and careers of former NSec learners, a panel discussion about the NSec, led by a former NSec learner, today member of the DSJ board and a very successful expert for education, Dr Zukiswa Mthimunye, the personal experiences of two prefects with the NSec and performances of the DSJ orchestra, the 5a choir and the Hip Hop/Dance Fit group as a thank you to our partner schools.
