The National Lockdown effected many communities in an adverse way and we made a decision to make some positive contributions to those less fortunate than us. In May, we ran the ‘Going for Guild’ Food Drive, as part of our #VirtualBasar celebrations, in aid of the girls at Guild Cottage. Your contributions were overwhelming and resulted in the DSJ donating enough food to last them all of winter.
The start of the third term coincided with Mandela Day on 18 July. The support of this day has lowered significantly (nationally) in recent years but we were not going to let this change our outlook. We turned a day into a week and the concept of the #MandelaWeek Food Drive was borne, with Growing Champions becoming our beneficiaries this time around.
Yet again, the DSJ community did not disappoint as the donations flooded in throughout the week. Thanks to your generosity, our Growing Champions #MandelaWeek Food Drive was a huge success! We can confirm that more than 18 families directly benefitted from your donations and made a lasting impact on them.
I would like to personally thank the school community, who showed unwavering generosity throughout the Lockdown, not only for the two food drives but also with all the other initiatives that we supported – it is truly inspirational.
