Studying in South Africa
Choosing a career is never easy, although it is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Choosing where to study is the second most difficult decision to make.
DSJ offers the following support to our secondary school learners:
- Grade 9: Career’s Day where the subject choice options and related career fields are introduced as learners choose their matric subjects at the end of grade 9. (Life orientation HOD – Me Chantelle Prinsloo)
- Grade 10: Two weeks Betriebspraktikum/Job shadowing from 10 – 21 July 2023. This is compulsory for all grade 10 learners and is a valuable introduction to the world of work. (Work experience coordinator – Mrs Cherie van Heerden)
- Grades 11 and 12: Career Expo Day 7 February 2023. A display of tertiary training institutions as well as South African universities. Break-away sessions with career professionals. (Career Guide coordinators – Mr Mlokoti (NSC learners) and Mr Leibesperger (Kombi-Zweig)
- Grades 11 and 12: Assessment testing. (Life orientation educators using Yenza.me, Phoenix Centre, professionals) Individual discussions for learners choosing to study in South Africa with Mr Mlokoti and in Germany with Mr Leibesperger.
- Grades 10 – 12: Continuous Information sessions by universities and private tertiary training institutions.
The following may assist you with your decisions:
- Entry requirements: What subjects and results are required
- Cost of studies: Loans, bursaries and scholarships available
- Distance: Technology and online options, accommodation and travel
- Job opportunities: Workplace, working environment, your personality
The information available below will give you some ideas of what to study, and where in South Africa you will be able to study. All of these institutions are accredited by the Department of High Education.
I hope you will find this valuable.
You are most welcome to come and discuss your options with me during any break and directly after school or email CareerCounssa@dsjmail.co.za
Cooper Mlokoti “Your work (and studies) is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” Steve Jobs |
