Open Day 2017
Saturday 4 March 2017 marked the occasion of our showpiece academic event. After the usual last-minute adjustments, the DSJ looked in pristine condition, ready to welcome our guests. A lot of other schools run their open days on Saturdays but we treat our Open Day as a normal school day which provides our visitors with a real insight into what happens at the school.
In 2014 we started hosting an ‘Altschüler Breakfast’ and this year we took it up a notch as we officially unveiled the new Head Prefects Honours Board in the Foyer. The Board has all the Head Prefects from 1969 onwards, which is when the DSJ moved to our current premises and marks the first ‘celebration’ ahead of our 50 year anniversary at Sans Souci in 2019.
Following the unveiling, the Foyer played host to the Kulturcafé. Our newly elected (and re-elected) PRC once again ran the show while awesome entertainment was provided by the Music Department, which allowed our guests the chance the nibble on something sweet and take in some of the best that the DSJ has to offer.
The main corridor and Aula buzzed with activities from both the school and Goete-Institut, while our main ‘reception’ area outside the Music Room provided parents with the opportunity to engage with members of School Management and the Board.
The general feeling about the day was positive with the Kindergarten and English Medium High School attracting the most interest. The estimated number of attendees was 900 and this included visitors, Altschüler and current parents. While the planning process is limited to a few groups of people, the actual running of the Open Day cannot take place without the total commitment of the whole DSJ community – for this we are truly thankful.
