Our focus on lesson development emphasis in 2017
This year, there are three focal points in our lesson development:
1. Implementation of the competence-oriented school curricula in the DaM (German as a first language) stream in grades 5 to 8.
During the last school year, the teachers worked on compiling competence-oriented school curicula which were approved by Germany. These are being implemented step-by-step in the lessons this year. Therefore, teachers are working in „lesson-related feedback teams“.
2. Strengthening of the transition from Kindergarten to Primary School
Our kindergarten and our primary school work together hand in hand to make the transition from pre-primary to grade 1 of the primary school as smooth as possible. In order to achieve this, all primary school and kindergarten principals of the German Schools in Southern Africa meet during the first term to exchange their experiences and to gain new impulses for cooperation.
3. Internal differentiation and diagnosis
Many teachers have been working on the subject „internal differentiation“ for years, so that the individual needs and aptitudes of our learners can be taken into consideration. In the attempt to consolidate the experiences made and to enable an even more intense exchange between our teachers, internal differentiation and especially diagnosis are the focus of this school year. Another goal in addition to that is for our teachers to develop together standardised criteria for high quality internal differentiation lessons. Specific training during this school year in this respect will support this process.
