Art Exhibition

View post in German

The annual Art Exhibition opened on the 19th of October 2017 to great acclaim. More than 300 artworks by learners from Grade 5 to Grade 12 were on display in the Foyer and Aula. The works included were very competent examples of a large variety of artistic disciplines. There were painted canvases, traditional drawings, various printmaking techniques, multimedia works, sculptures, and even an installation work, showing the Art Department’s commitment to teaching a variety of techniques, while encouraging the learners to be creative.

Mr Gordon Froud, a senior lecturer at the University of Johannesburg (and a prolific artist and curator), opened the Exhibition with a short speech outlining the importance of Art education, and explaining that educated artists have many career opportunities open to them in the emerging job market. Mr Bachmeier, the school’s headmaster, then handed out Certificates of Merit in art to a number of deserving learners in each Grade.

These learners were:

Grade 5: Lesedi Buys, Kevin Marx, Annika Erasmus
Grade 6: Alessia Bachmann, Annabel Dresel, Sophia Itov
Grade 7: Chiara Bachmann, Siobhan Butler, Catherine Creaven
Grade 8: Giovanna Nett, Nicola Fischer, Philipp Dresel, Anil Quitter, Thembelihle Mchunu
Grade 9: Jessica Coetzee, Martin du Plessis
Grade 10: Amukelani Mandlazi, Maia Voigt
Grade 11: Nicules Holtmann
Grade 12: Sarah Bachmeier

Thank you to all those who attended and well done to all learners on their high standard of work!
